Difficult Kai Havertz transfer sounding more possible as sources queue up to confirm Chelsea interest

Chelsea have been linked with Kai Havertz for some time now, but it’s never felt that convincing.

For one thing, every top team is interested in the Bayer Leverksen midfielder – how could they not be? He’s unquestionably one of the top talents out there on the market this summer. The links to Stamford Bridge didn’t seem specific enough, and it felt like the club’s name was just getting chucked in there with the other top teams in Europe.

That felt even more like the case when the deal to sign Timo Werner became apparent. Surely there wouldn’t be the budget for two such deals in one summer? But the more links we start to hear, even post-Werner, the more we suspect that something may actually happen.

ESPN have this afternoon become the latest to confirm Chelsea’s interest, joining tabloid reports earlier in the day. They cite their own independent sources. The Guardian report it too, and even the top German source Bild is joining in now.

Bit by bit, we’re starting to believe this is possible…
