Chelsea warned to not bother “wasting their time” in Timo Werner chase

Chelsea are being consistently reported as “in the race” for RB Leipzig striker Timo Werner, but it’s sounding more and more like a fruitless task.

As far as anyone can tell, Liverpool have the deal all but wrapped up. Jurgen Klopp reportedly spoke to his countryman over Easter, and given how good the Reds are right now, one can understand why any player might want to go there and play for the former Dortmund boss.

The Transfer Window podcast with self-proclaimed “transfer expert” Ian McGarry says that the deal to take the red hot forward to Anfield is already essentially done, and that the player’s agent has effectively told other chasing clubs – including Chelsea and Manchester United to not waste their time as a deal with Liverpool is finished.

“It has been widely reported that Chelsea and Manchester United have been interested in the player,” McGarry said in quotes picked up by The Sun.

“Our information is that’s not the case.

“The reason for that is that they believe and have been told by the player’s representatives that a deal is effectively done to Liverpool.

“And effectively they would be wasting their time.”

That’s a blow for the Blues, who desperately need some top quality additions in the final third if they want to go back to competing for titles in the Premier League and Champions League.

There are still plenty of other options out there, but at the moment it’s hard for even for Roman Abramovich to compete with the promises of success that Liverpool can provide.
