Chelsea set to battle with Europe’s top clubs for latest youth prospect

Chelsea are always on the lookout to snap up the brightest youth talents from across Europe, and Scotland has proved a fruitful hunting ground in recent years.

Billy Gilmour was snapped up from Rangers as a 15 year old and he’s already making first team appearances a couple of years later. No wonder then that the Blues are going back to their happy hunting grounds for another go.

The Daily Mail report that this time it’s a Hearts player on the menu – 17 year old Aaron Hickey.

The left back has already made an impact on the first team, and turns 18 this month, so he’s a little older than Gilmour was, and perhaps more capable of making an impact right away.

On the other hand that just means the competition is going to be even more fierce – the Mail piece names Lazio, Celtic, Man City, Crystal Palace and AC Milan as other potential interested parties.

Chelsea are in the market for a first choice player in that position too however, and if they sign someone like Ben Chilwell that will make things significantly more complicated.
