Chelsea have saved £30m on Timo Werner bargain signing

Chelsea look set to sign Timo Werner this summer, after agreeing to trigger his release clause with RB Leipzig.

That will see the Blues pay a hefty €60m for the striker, but that still represents a monster discount on his real value. Of course he will be on big wages – but who isn’t nowadays?

The fact that we got to beat Liverpool to his signing, just when they were so sure they were getting him, is the icing on the cake.

The CIES Football Observatory release their monthly transfer value update, and they had Werner listed at €90m. So Chelsea are shaving €30m off his value, right off the bat.

Assuming he hits the ground running, the forward could shoot even higher up the list too. Whichever way you look at it, the Blues got a bargain. Let’s hope his performances on the pitch are as good as the business getting him in.
