Chelsea offer forgotten midfielder a new contract

Chelsea look to have offered a contract extension to one of their forgotten names.

27-year old Holland international Marco van Ginkel has confirmed that the club have offered him a contract extension, with his current deal set to expire at the end of this month.

Although he has not confirmed that he has accepted the deal as of yet, saying there are still things to ‘figure’ out.

But the serial loan army member could see his stay at Chelsea extend even further, and that is the clubs intention in what the midfielder describes as being ‘no small thing that a club tries to keep you in such an uncertain time after such a long injury period.’

The report comes from Eindhovens Dagblad, and it was quite surprising to read that he could be staying.

You would be forgiven for believing that this deal is trying to be completed so that Chelsea could then receive a fee for selling the now fully fit midfielder. But as he says, Chelsea ‘still see something’ in him.

He said:

“I am very happy with that sign of confidence from Chelsea. It is no small thing that a club tries to keep you in such an uncertain time after such a long injury period. Apparently they still see something in me, although we still have to figure it out.”
