Chelsea aiming for unrealistic £40m for flop striker

Chelsea want £40m for Michy Batshuayi, according to the Daily Express.

The striker actually began last season as Frank Lampard’s backup to Tammy Abraham, but the more he was called on the less he actually impressed, and by the time the season was called to a halt he was well behind Olivier Giroud in the pecking order.

Because of that, £40m looks like an impossible sum to ask for. Even West Ham aren’t crazy enough to pay that much.

One can imagine a situation where he’s sold for £20m with some major add-ons, but given he’s had about 6 months of good form in the last 5 years, anything more than that is a stretch.

With Timo Werner now all but secured and Olivier Giroud’s contract extended for a further year, there’s  not much need for Batshuayi to stick around.

Let’s just move on from what has been an unquestionably unsuccessful signing as soon as possible.
