Mateo Kovacic says he can “learn a lot” from Frank Lampard

Mateo Kovacic is back in training with the rest of the Chelsea team, and the midfielder has been speaking about the feelings he got this time a year ago, when Frank Lampard had just arrived at the club.

Kovacic ended up being many people’s pick for the player of the season for Frank’s first campaign back as a coach in West London, and according to the former Real Madrid man a lot of that is down to the way Lampard developed him:

“I think from the first moment our feeling was good. I liked the way he was training us, really hard training, I liked his character, how he was speaking to the team,” Kovacic revealed.

“And I think I can learn a lot from him because all the things I am missing from my game – scoring goals and being more direct, this is the thing Lampard was amazing at in his career,” he went on to say.

“So he’s a great manager, a great person and I think I can learn a lot from him during my time here,” he concluded in quotes picked up by Football.London.

We’d imagine that Lampard is planning on using Kovacic extensively in the rest of this season, and it will be interesting to see where if he can pick up where he left off.

His game was becoming more and more complete under the legendary midfield goalscorer – can the metamorphosis continue after such a long break from the action? We will – hopefully – soon find out.
