Chelsea’s Rice for Kante switch too difficult to achieve this summer

Chelsea will make a bid for Declan Rice if they sell N’Golo Kante this summer, according to a report in the Mirror.

The West Ham midfielder was in the Chelsea academy for some years as a kid, but has become a Premier League regular in East London.

It’s not a preposterous suggestion to think that Frank Lampard sees him as a future option, but things would have to fall into place.

Firstly, Chelsea would have to sell Kante, something they’re not keen to do.

The Blues might listen if a massive offer for the 29 year old came in from Barcelona or Real Madrid, but that looks unlikely given the global financial situation.

Lampard already has a number of midfielders to choose from, and while it’s understandable he would be interested in a more defensively player to replace Kante when he’s gone, Rice won’t come cheap.

It will all depend on how many players the Spanish giants can sell, and how much they want France star Kante. The Blues will want to receive more than they end up paying for any replacement, ideally.
