Chelsea must find their October form to secure Champions League football

If Frank Lampard and Chelsea are looking back on this season so far and identifying the month they would want to emulate most, it would have to be October.

The Blues had a couple of bright games through August and September, with some mixed results, but October was when they were really firing on all cylinders.

The Blues beat Lille away in the Champions League to start the month and get their European campaign rolling at last. Then they beat Southampton comfortably, squeaked a win out of Newcastle, then added a second impressive away European game with a win over Ajax.

Confidence was high, and Christian Pulisic burst onto the scene with a hattrick against Burnley that weekend in. 4-2 that pushed Chelsea even higher up the table.

Sadly that was as good as it got. On the last day of October, the Blues lost to Manchester United, and they weren’t able to get their form together consistently again after that for an extended run.

The Premier League looks like it’s going to be back next month, and the last 9 games will come at some pace. If Chelsea can get their October rhythm back, they’ve got a great chance of holding on to 4th and ensuring they have another European adventure next season.
