Chelsea ask ‘for information’ about a Napoli striker that is not Dries Mertens

Chelsea have been heavily linked to signing Napoli forward Dries Mertens when his current deal runs out at the end of next month.

However, as per The Guardian, whilst Chelsea’s interest is acknowledged, it appears that Mertens is close to signing a new deal with Napoli instead of leaving as a free agent.

This could open up the door for one of Mertens current team mates to leave the club instead, and Chelsea have made an enquiry about signing him, according to Sport Italia Journalist Alfredo Pedulla (cited by Tuttonapoli.net).

He says that Chelsea have asked for information about Napoli’s Polish international striker, Arkadiusz Milik.

The 26-year old former Ajax forward has been at Napoli since 2016 and has made almost 100 appearances for the club. But as Chelsea search for a new striker to bring in, he might well be tempted by a move to the Premier League.

Milik also has interest from Tottenham, Juventus, and Atletico Madrid.

Pedulla said:

“A candidate for Milik, beyond Juve. A few weeks ago we talked about Tottenham and Atletico Madrid, and then there is Chelsea: Tottenham pushes a lot and Chelsea asked for information, while Juve is waiting for news on the renewal “.
