Another Serie A giant joins chase for free transfer from Chelsea

Serie A is a stronger league than it was ten years ago, but it’s still a league that likes to pick up older players and those available on free transfers.

Juventus in particular have made a habit of snapping up players who reach the end of their deals – just look at Aaron Ramsey last summer.

This time it’s Chelsea with players set to be released, and one in particular has caught the eye of clubs in the Italian top flight.

Pedro has been a stalwart for Chelsea since joining in 2016, and a few days ago the Corriere dello Sport claimed that Roma were closing in on him.

Now Juve have been added to the list by CalcioMercato. We can see the logic, given their history of liking this type of deal, but there are real question marks over whether the former Barcelona man would be up to their standards now he’s well into his 30s.

He was an effective sub at times for Frank Lampard this season, but not a guaranteed starter. Maybe he would enjoy playing that role again in Turin – but given he’s probably only got a few years left in him, he might prefer a move to somewhere where he can play 30 games or more in his twilight years.
