32 year old happy at Bayern despite Chelsea interest

The Daily Mail tonight have an interesting interview with Jerome Boateng, where they include the claim that Chelsea are interested in the 32 year old defender.

The Bayern Munich star has had immense success in Germany, but is coming to the end of his deal in Bavaria, with just 12 months left once we reach this summer.

Arsenal and Chelsea are listed as interested parties in bringing the former Man City player back to the Premier League, but he sounds pretty content where he is:

“At the moment I feel good and can imagine that I will stay. My focus is totally on Bayern and the current season.”

“Hansi Flick told me right from the start that he was planning with me and appreciated my qualities. Now I’m really enjoying football again.”

After spells in and out of the team under Niko Kovac, new coach Flick has restored Boateng’s importance, and it will be a much harder test to prise him away now than it would have been 6 or so months ago.

Still, any player well past 30 whose contract runs down can be tempted with a big enough offer, and if Frank Lampard wants an injection of top level experience, into his team, he could do a lot worse than signing up Boateng for a season or two.
