Reliable report confirms Chelsea have extended the contract of World Cup winner

One of the transfer sagas of the winter window finally looks like it might be over for good. Well, at least until this time next year.

Chelsea looked certain that they would sell front man Olivier Giroud in January, with him seemingly being close to leaving.

However, The Blues decided to keep the World Cup winning striker until at least the end of the season.

His current contract runs out this June, but Chelsea have now tied him down for another year by exercising the option to renew his deal that was already in his contract, according to the highly reliable Gianluca Di Marzio.

There has yet to be any confirmation from Chelsea or Giroud regarding this news, but Di Marzio is not often wrong with his reporting.

It would make sense, especially if Chelsea want to sell Michy Batshuayi this summer. Although, you can’t help but feel Giroud will only get frustrated again playing second or third fiddle for another year.
