“I’m a big fan” – Premier League cult hero thinks Chelsea have the best young player in the league

Tim Cahill knows a thing or two about being a goalscoring midfielder in the Premier League.

The former Everton player used to pop up with a ridiculous number of goals from the middle of the pitch – and became a fantasy football legend for doing it.

In quotes picked out by the Metro though, the Australia star has named a player in Chelsea rather than Everton blue who’s doing it for him now:

“I like the look of Mason Mount,” he replied to a question about the best young players in the league.

“I think he’s a top goalscorer and he’s got a massive career ahead of him.”

That’s high praise from a top Premier League player. There’s still so many areas for Mason to improve, and he would do well to watch some of the videos of how Cahill managed to score so many goals from headers, despite his small size.

That might be the extra 5 goals a season Mason needs to make him a regular 20 a season man. Certainly working with Frank Lampard is going to help squeeze out a few more, as Cahill also noted:

“One of the reasons why I like him a lot is because of his coach and the way that he’s trying to mould a player similar to himself. He can lead him and show him the right ways.”
