The strong reports eventually surfaced after Chelsea seemingly kept it behind closed doors, that they were close to agreeing to sign Lille centre back Gabriel Magalhaes.
However, news seemed to go quiet on this until yesterday at least. The often reliable ESPN have provided a timely updated.
They say that Chelsea remain optimistic over signing the 22-year old former Brazil under-20 international.
The deal is not confirmed yet but all parties are pretty optimistic for an agreement.
They cite that the physical and tall defender is just the type of centre back that Blues boss Frank Lampard is looking for.
