Chelsea will pay all casual workers throughout coronavirus crisis

Chelsea’s matchday staff will be paid in full for April, with no assistance from the government.

Nizaar Kinsella of Goal.com leads the way on this one, revealing that the club will be making the full payments themselves for the staff who work on matchday, including Stamford Bridge stewards, ground staff and hospitality workers.

Games were supposed to happen this month against Aston Villa, Bayern Munich and Leicester, but they have not taken place and nor will those scheduled games from next month.

There are also a group of Chelsea legends like Bobby Tambling and Kerry Dixon who speak in corporate boxes and on before matches. They will also be paid in full, seemingly for the duration of the crisis.

When football does return, games are almost certain to be played behind closed doors, meaning these members of staff are going to be waiting longer than most to return to action. That makes today’s decision extra important, and we commend the club for taking this kind of action without hesitation.
