Chelsea have “watched” £28m defender wanted by Man City and West Ham

When it comes to Ligue 1 defenders, the dominant chatter this week regarding Chelsea has been about Gabriel Magalhaes of Lille.

The Brazil defender is considered a hot prospect from that division, but he has competition in that regard from Boubacar Kamara of Marseille.

He’s also the subject of Premier League interest, with the Daily Express today naming Manchester City and a £28m fee as the specifics.

Along with City, West Ham (who signed Issa Diop from Toulouse a couple of seasons ago in similar circumstances) are cited as interested – and Chelsea are confirmed to have “watched him in the past.”

Whether we see more talent in Gabriel, or just better value, or if we’re actually equally interested in both we’re not sure. Either way both look very strong prospects, and we wouldn’t be at all surprised to see both end up in the Premier League somewhere by the end of the next transfer window – whenever that may be.

City do have a really strong need at centre-back right how however, and it will be difficult to outbid them if they have their heart truly set on the talented 20 year old.
