Chelsea target four positions with transfers to strengthen Lampard’s squad

Nobody knows when the transfer window will be reopening, but when it does Chelsea are going to have to strengthen immediately.

After a year out of the market they’re thin in some areas, and there will likely be a general reinvestment in the summer.

Football.London write that Frank Lampard is prioritising four positions:

“An ideal shopping list would contain a new goalkeeper to challenge Kepa Arrizabalaga, a starting left back, additional attacking midfield options and another striker to challenge Tammy Abraham.”

That all seems to add up. Both Marcos Alonso and Emerson Palmieri lost Lampard’s faith at points in the season, and there are countless links to Ben Chilwell and Alex Telles there.

Kepa too was dropped this season, and it would be crazy to not at least bring in some competition for him.

Of the other two, backup for Tammy is essential with Olivier Giroud out of contract; and Pedro and Willian leaving too mean that attacking midfield is also a priority.

Overall, it’s hard to disagree with that assessment. They’ll be looking out for any top player who becomes available, but those positions are what we also expect to be put to the top of the list.
