Why Chelsea fans may have to wait to see big summer signing in action

As one of the few clubs to have already signed and sealed a transfer for this summer, Chelsea are heavily affected by the way coronavirus is disrupting the season.

It means we end up playing after the date at which we have several players out of contract in June, and more importantly will also be playing after the date when Hakim Ziyech is supposed to arrive from Ajax.

FIFA’s statement today indicates that teams will try and play out their current seasons through the summer, and that legal routes will be offered to help stars stay at their current teams until everything is finally done.

The Evening Standard have quotes from the report, and they indicate that this could mean Ziyech stays at Ajax until the end of the current season, whenever that may be.

That kind of delay is disappointing, especially when it comes to seeing an exiting new signing in action, but also allows us to keep our other players around for the concluding games.

It’s probably the most fair way to try and sort things out, as far as we can see.
