Why Chelsea failed to get one player into Sky’s team of the season

This season isn’t over yet, as far as we can tell, but given the break we’re currently having, media outlets have started putting out their teams of the season.

Sky Sports asked fans to name theirs, and once all the votes were counted they came up with the following:

D.Henderson, TAA, Maguire, Van Dijk, Robertson, De Bruyne, J.Henderson, Grealish, Mane, Vardy, Aubameyang.

Now there are a few dodgy selections in there which we won’t other arguing about, but the point is there are no Chelsea players.

The Blues had a super start to the season, and Tammy Abraham would have been a shoo in for one of those starting slots had he kept up his Autumn form.

Similarly Mateo Kovacic was great for large parts of the season and probably only misses out because his team couldn’t string wins together well enough.

In the end, it kind of sums up our season under Frank Lampard. Brilliant games, brilliant spells in games, but not quite the consistency we need to be a top team just yet.

Let’s hope that all changes this summer.
