Chelsea chased Lille striker in January and may try again

Chelsea were very interested in a striker in January, that’s for sure.

We’ve already heard Frank Lampard speak frankly about how Olivier Giroud almost left the club, but ended up staying because a suitable replacement couldn’t be found.

According to CaughtOffside, one of those targeted players was Victor Osimhen of Lille. The striker came up against Chelsea in the Champions League twice in the group stage, and has impressed in Ligue 1 this season too.

Apparently we’re still interested, and will continue to pursue him whenever transfers are permitted again. It’s easy to see why. The Nigerian offers a similar all-round number 9 style to Tammy Abraham, and has developed European experience already.

But as he’s not at a top club, he won’t be too expensive and won’t expect to start every game.

That type of player might be the exact rotation option we’re looking for to share the load with Tammy Abraham next season.
