Gilmour can become Chelsea “great” says former defender

Just before this season was cruelly cut short, we saw the blossoming of a beautiful flower in Billy Gilmour.

He won our man of the match award in the last two games of the season against Liverpool and Everton, and was the talk of the league for a few days afterwards.

Now there are bigger things going on, but that hasn’t stopped the overall excitement about his ability among Chelsea fans. Former defender Frank Sinclair has been the latest to go on about his potential.

In quotes picked up by the Evening Standard, Sinclair went as far as to say that Gilmour has “got what it takes to make it at Chelsea.”

“I’d put him up there are being a real Chelsea great if it gets the opportunity to play regular football,” he went on.

That’s high praise, but certainly what we’ve seen in his starts so far is testament to his incredible ceiling. The fact that he’s a boyhood Chelsea fan will only help matters when it comes to establishing himself as a “great”.

We don’t want’t to put too much pressure on his shoulders – he’s only 18 – but there’s no doubt we can count Billy among our very brightest stars of the future, as Frank says.
