Willian is “Chelsea’s best and most consistent player” according to former Blue

Willian is a player who splits opinion, even at Chelsea.

Some love him for the good things he does, others can’t stand him for the bad things he does. Some players are just like that – you can wonder what game your friend was watching when you both end up discussing it afterwards.

On CaughtOffside today they have some quotes from former Chelsea midfielder Alan Hudson, who explains that he’s a huge fan of the Brazilian.

“Willian has been Chelsea’s best and most consistent player,” he said in an exclusive interview.

“Turning defence into attack brilliantly, with such pace. They would be foolish to let him go. He’s not only a great player but a player who young players can learn off day in and day out,” he went on.

“You can’t beat such experience from a player with such great ability and one who has been a fantastic servant. I would keep him, for where do you find another Willian?”

That’s a good question. He certainly has contributed a huge amount overall in his long spell at the club. But many feel there’s a need to refresh this team’s attacking lineup, and after so many season it may need to be Willian who is shown the door.

On the other hand, if we know Pedro and Olivier Giroud are going to, might it make sense to keep hold of at least one of the old guard to smooth the transition next season?

It will come down to the ongoing negotiations over the Brazilian’s contract – as it stands, he’s on his way out, despite Hudson’s pleas.
