Ter-Stegen contract dispute is serious – but Chelsea still a long way off

One of Chelsea’s big issues this year was with their goalkeeper.

Kepa was not good enough and was rightly dropped, but playing Willy Caballero doesn’t help anybody.

We’ve been linked with plenty of goalies since then, some more realistic than others. If we could pick any of the ones that have been credibly linked, it would probably be Marc-Andre Ter Stegen of Barcelona.

The last couple of seasons have shown he’s right up there among the very best, along with Jan Oblak of Atletico Madrid and Alisson of Liverpool.

Ter Stegen’s contract talks are stalling, and according to Football Espana today, the stopper wants as much money as some of his star outfield teammates – and some of them are making serious bank every week.

If this really breaks down, Chelsea will be desperate to offer the German keeper a way out. But given the piece acknowledges that he’s still keen to stay put if possible, that feels a long way off.
