Leo Messi has been quoted making some rather outrageously complimentary quotations about Mason Mount.
On the back of a collectible card, the Barcelona star poured praise on the Chelsea midfielder.

The cards say “designed by Leo Messi”, and there are quotation marks around the comment, which reads “having watched him play, he has the potential to be one of the best.”
That certainly implies he said it, but we imagine it might not be a real quote. Messi is quite well known for not taking much of an interest in the wider footballing world far outside his Barcelona bubble. The idea he’s been watching Vitesse and Derby games seems unlikely. Perhaps he saw some clips of Mason from this season?
It’s all rather odd and it’s hard to make sense of it. Presumably these quotes were all ghost written for him – maybe he truly is a massive Mason fan.
Someone really needs to ask him one day…
