Ruben Loftus-Cheek could play on Monday then miss Liverpool game

Chelsea have had the blessing of Ruben Loftus-Cheek on the bench for the last few games, including against Bournemouth yesterday.

We were hoping to see him play, to get some more valuable minutes in his legs towards the end, but the way the game went made that impossible.

Speaking to the Fifth Stand App after the game, as picked up by Simon Johnson of the Athletic in the Tweet above, manager Frank Lampard hinted that instead of giving his midfielder a return to action on Tuesday, he might play him in the development squad game the night before.

That would allow RLC to play from the start and get maybe an hour or so under his belt at a lower tempo, rather than a cameo substitute appearance that would be on the cards against Liverpool in the FA Cup the next day.

A Monday night run out would then put him in line for a return to the Premier League on Sunday against Everton as a sub.
