Premier League left back was forced on loan by Chelsea

Patrick Van Aanholt came through the Chelsea youth academy, and has since had a really nice career, first and Sunderland and now at Crystal Palace.

He’s a well established Premier League left back, and we can really see a bigger team coming in for him this summer. In a recent interview he spoke about what it was like coming through the Chelsea academy, and how he felt pushed out on his first loan spell away from the club.

Football Oranje have the quotes from the Dutchman, who says that after he graduated from the Blues’ youth academy, they “forced” him on loan to their feeder team in Holland.

He was more keen to go to FC Twente, where Steve McLaren was manager, but Chelsea had other ideas. PVA says he “shouted” at sporting director Michael Emenalo, but it was to no avail. In the end he had to bow to their wishes, and he ended up playing two successful seasons in Arnhem.

Loanees don’t always get the club they want, but if they perform they can forge great careers away from Chelsea.
