Olivier Giroud ready to start battle for Euro place all over again

One of the major Chelsea plotlines this season was Olivier Giroud’s status in the squad.

It became very clear early on that Frank Lampard didn’t think he would fit into his team’s style of playing, and Tammy Abraham and then Michy Batshuayi were clearly the top two options.

That was the situation through January, with Giroud desperate to leave to try and find a club where he could play and thus retain his starting spot for France at Euro 2020.

But once Abraham was injured and Batshuayi had struggled in his absence, Giroud was finally given the nod by Lampard in the last couple of months, and he looked excellent.

Now the news has come out of UEFA that Euro 2020 will be pushed back a year, allowing the striker an extra 12 months to find a team that will play him regularly.

We’re all just looking for bright spots right now – and this could be one of them.
