Mancini tells Chelsea player to “come play in Italy”

The attention of the world is not really on football right now, but Roberto Mancini has still managed to say something potentially inflammatory.

The Italy manager is quoted in the Sun today making some comments about Chelsea’s left back Emerson Palmieri.

Since Mancini has been in charge, the former Roma man has been a regular for his country, despite his major injury issues.

He struggled this season after coming back from his latest problem, and Frank Lampard favoured Cesar Azpilicueta and Marcos Alonso over Emerson for long periods.

Asked about his situation at left back, former Man City boss Mancini commented that “it would be nice if Emerson Palmieri, who hasn’t played much for Chelsea, could come and play in Italy.”

Inter have certainly been linked with interest in Palmieri before, but as yet nothing had come of it. A move back to his adopted nation looks likely at some point, but Chelsea fans won’t appreciate the nudge from his national team boss.

He’s our player, and we’ll sell him when we’re ready.
