Giroud could be set for a shock stay at Chelsea after recent surge

Olivier Giroud is interested in staying at Chelsea beyond the end of his contract at the end of this season.

The target man was heavily linked with a host of clubs in January, but ended up staying at Stamford Bridge as Chelsea struggled to replace him.

It seemed he was unhappy about the situation, as he looked set for a further 6 months sitting on the bench, but Tammy Abraham’s injury opened the door for him recently, and he’s now playing every week.

According to Simon Johnson in the Athletic, Giroud hasn’t ruled out staying put, presumably only if he is used more by the team, as he has been in recent weeks.

He has seemingly put Michy Batshuayi firmly in the cupboard as third choice now, so the chances are there – but surely the Blues will spend big on a top striker this summer? That would shut the door on Giroud for good, no matter how impressive his renaissance has been these last few weeks.
