Frank Lampard gives double injury update on Mateo Kovacic and Willian

Frank Lampard had a mainly positive press conference after a really good win over Liverpool, able to praise multiple players and the team as a whole.

One negative was the injury updates he had to give. Both Mateo Kovacic and Willian went off hurt during the game, and journalists were keen to find out more about their issues in the presser.

“Both Achilles [injuries],” Lampard said in quotes picked up by Football.London.

“Hopefully not too bad for Willian, but Kovacic might be a bit worse. We have been unlucky with injuries, but we have to work with it”

It doesn’t sound devastating, but it sounds like we will indeed be missing Kovacic with big selection problems already in central midfield.

Billy Gilmour must be in line for another start in the middle now, and if Willian is out too we might even see the back 3 used again to get Ross Barkley and Mason Mount into the team as inside forwards.

We will find out more in Friday afternoon’s press conference.
