Former Blue makes Garth Crooks’ team of the season – but no current Chelsea players do

There’s no football going on right now and people are scratching their heads wondering if we should talk about the current season as if it’s over.

In the vacuum, over at the Daily Mirror they’ve filled their time by adding up all of Garth Crooks’ teams of the week from the BBC website all season – to work out who might be in a “team of the season so far.”

Looking back at the total appearances of the season so far, the conclusion was the following side:

Ederson (Man City – picked 5 times)

Virgil van Dijk (Liverpool – 7)

Harry Maguire (Man Utd – 6)

Gary Cahill (Crystal Palace – 4)

Fernandinho (Man City – 4)

Jack Grealish (Aston Villa – 5)

Kevin De Bruyne (Man City – 11)

Bruno Fernandes (Man Utd – 4)

Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang (Arsenal – 5)

Jamie Vardy (Leicester City – 5)

Sadio Mane (Liverpool – 7)

As you can see, there are no Chelsea players in the mix. It would be interesting to see who has come closest – surely Mateo Kovacic or Tammy Abraham were in there a few times?

In any case, it’s interesting to see that of the two senior centre backs to leave Chelsea in the last year, one is in (Gary Cahill), while one is not (David Luiz).
