“It’s been a difficult period for me” – Fikayo Tomori admits to tough times after losing place

Fikayo Tomori made so much progress earlier this season that it’s hard to not be disappointed by how things have gone since.

He was expected to go on loan this season, but instead Frank Lampard let David Luiz go to Arsenal and integrated Tomori into his squad.

Once a couple of injuries cropped up in Autumn, he was into the team, and he was absolutely imperious in several games, especially against Ajax as we gritted our way through the Champions League group stage.

Now, in an interview with Chelsea’s official website, he’s admitted he’s having a “difficult period” at the moment since he’s been out of the team.

“It’s been a difficult period for me, but I’m working hard to try and get back in the team,” the defender commented.

“There is a lot of competition for places, not just in my position, so there are going to be disappointed people when they’re not playing,” he went on.

He was given a chance against Bournemouth as Lampard switched up the team to try and get more defensive stability but couldn’t make the most of it. In fact he was poor as we conceded two.

We all know he’s got the tools though, he just needs more time and more chances to regain the impressive form we saw earlier in the season.
