CONFIRMED: Premier League suspended until at least April 30th

The Premier League has concluded its video conference call, deciding that the competition’s hiatus will be extended from the 4th of April until the 30th April at the earliest.

They announced in a statement today that the rule stating that leagues must not terminate “later than 1st June” will be ignored, and the deadline to finish the 2019/2020 season will be “indefinitely extended”.

Clearly they are ruling nothing out, but the focus seems to be on concluding this season, whenever that may be able to happen.

There have been suggestions of a rapid fire, fully televised conclusion of the league behind closed doors, but that was not mentioned in the statement today.

Instead, a rather hopeful new 30th April date has been put in place for the leagues to restart, but even the league’s statement seems to accept this is unlikely as things stand.

Once again, the can has been kicked down the line, with no conclusion in sight.
