Chelsea player set to sign for Leeds within a week

Chelsea youngster Ashley Akpan will leave the club shortly after not getting a new contract in West London.

That’s what Football Insider are reporting at least, with the teenager surprisingly apparently considered surplus to requirements at Cobham despite a good career as a schoolboy.

Just 15 years old but turning 16 next month, he has his pick of several Premier League and Championship clubs – according to the reports.

Top of the list is Leeds United however, and Akpan will go for a trial next week at their training ground as they assess his abilities. Chelsea will allow him to visit clubs of his choice as he seeks a scholarship or pro deal at a different team for when his Blues deal expires.

The youngster has played for Poland at youth level, but is also eligible for England and Nigeria. If he thrives in Yorkshire, expect the tussle between the three nations to get him a senior cap to increase year on year.
