Chelsea look to beat Arsenal to sign Middlesbrough striker

Chelsea are continuing to be linked to a number of top rising stars currently plying their trade in youth academies around the world.

The latest player to have caught their youth scouting team is Middlesbrough striker Calum Kavanagh.

The 16-year old prospect is also playing regularly for Ireland under-17s.

The Sun report that Chelsea are hoping to get ahead of Arsenal in the race to sign Kavanagh, who is the son of former Republic of Ireland international Graham.

His current side Middlesbrough are attempting to tie him down to a long term contract with them, but the striker is believed to only want a short term deal for now in case of circumstantial changes.

With Chelsea and Arsenal both hovering, the young starlet may well be swayed by a chance to go and try out with one of the Premier League big boys.

Chelsea meanwhile, continue with the trend of scouting and signing some of the worlds top young players.
