Chelsea have today been linked with a new transfer target, the Borussia Dortmund right back Achraf Hakimi, according to reports in the Daily Mirror.
The Real Madrid man has been gaining experience for several seasons in the Bundesliga with Dortmund, and has developed into one of the most coveted right full backs in the league.
He provides attacking threat and real physicality down the right, learning his trade originally on loan from Los Blancos in the Bundesliga, just as the incumbent of the Real Madrid right back slot Dani Carvajal did at Bayern Leverkusen.
Now there are a few reasons we’re not taking this one too seriously – firstly because Hakimi is a top tier established right back at a top club. We’re expecting Real Madrid to try and buy him back, but even if they don’t, there will be a host of top teams driving his price up.
In addition to that, we’re actually already well-equipped at right back already. We have brilliant young wonderkid Reece James, plus veteran captain Cesar Azpilicueta.
As great as Hakimi is, given his price tag and our situation in that position, this seems an unlikely deal right now. Unless we see James move into midfield permanently, or Azpi leave, this doesn’t seem like the most sensible possible deployment of our resources.
