Chelsea could have 5+ England players at Euro 2021

There’s no actual football being played at the moment, leading all those publications whose main role it is to write about the sport to have to branch out a bit in search of content.

Sky Sports has constructed a squad for the now postponed Euro 2020, assuming that a year from now Gareth Southgate is picking his 23 players for the tournament next June.

They used votes from fans online, and came up with this group:

Goalkeepers: Dean Henderson, Jordan Pickford and Nick Pope

Defenders: Trent Alexander-Arnold, Aaron Wan-Bissaka, Harry Maguire, Joe Gomez, Tyrone Mings, John Stones, Ben Chilwell and Luke Shaw

Midfielders: Jordan Henderson, Jack Grealish, James Maddison, Mason Mount, Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain and Dele Alli

Forwards: Harry Kane, Raheem Sterling, Jadon Sancho, Marcus Rashford, Tammy Abraham and Callum Hudson-Odoi

That’s three Blues in the mix already, plus you have to consider the fact that we may buy someone like Ben Chilwell in the next 12 months. There’s also Ruben Loftus-Cheek to return to fitness, Reece James with a chance, and so on.

If everything goes to plan in the next year, we could be looking at 5/6 Chelsea players at that tournament. The delay may ruin Tammy’s chances of being first choice with Harry Kane out injured, but it also gives the rest of the players far more of a chance to impress Gareth Southgate over the next 12 months.
