“It will be difficult” – Olivier Giroud’s Euro 2020 hopes all but extinguished as Chelsea nightmare goes on

Olivier Giroud has had a very disappointing season, and we really feel for him.

He went into it thinking it was a fair fight to be first choice striker between him, Tammy Abraham and Michy Batshuayi.

In fact, Frank Lampard’s mind was clearly made up and Tammy has lead the line week in week out while Giroud has barely featured.

Angling for a move in January, the France forward found that he was unable to leave because Chelsea couldn’t find a replacement.

Now he’s going to have to suffer the rest of the season on the bench, with his Euro 2020 hopes fading. SportWitness report quotes from Noel Le Graet, president of the France Football Federation, who makes it clear that unless he suddenly starts playing, his prospects are slim:

“I hope he will play a few matches,” Le Graet said.

“Otherwise, physically it will be difficult.”

It sounds like he’s all but closing the door on Giroud’s chances, which is a real shame for Oli.
