Southampton disaster could be sticking in Lampard’s mind as Tomori sits out

Fikayo Tomori has had a great season overall.

As recently as August he looked like he would be heading out on loan, but the sudden departure of David Luiz meant a role for him in the squad, and he truly took advantage of that chance.

He’s ended up playing a lot for Frank Lampard, although he’s lost his place in the side more recently.

His two most recent starts have been in the FA Cup, games where he played extremely well, but before that his last chance was against Arsenal, where he was shifted to right back in the first half and then subbed off after an hour.

The last time he completed 90 minutes was against Southampton on Boxing Day, as they beat us 2-0. Tomori was by no means the only one at fault, but it was a stunning defeat.

Is that the game that’s sticking in Frank Lampard’s mind? Just one league start lasting less than hour after that is pretty damning.

Either way, as long as he performs as well as he has in the chances he’s still getting in the cup, his moment in the first team will come again soon.
