Ruben Loftus-Cheek plays 60 minutes in reserve game as first team return nears

Ruben Loftus-Cheek has returned to action for Chelsea in a friendly game at the training ground.

The Athletic had the exclusive report from Cobham, where they say the midfielder played for 60 minutes in a friendly game behind closed doors.

A match with Brentford’s B team, playing alongside a group of Development Squad players, was used to ease Ruben back into game time.

He will likely play another hour or so before completing 90 minutes in a week or so.

Then he can be brought into first team training full time with an eye for finally returning to competitive action for the club.

Frank Lampard will be desperate to get the box to box titan back playing, but will also be very wary of rushing him after what will be close to a year out of action after his injury.

His goalscoring influence from the middle of the park could bring a lot to this team, and it looks like he will be back in time to have an influence on this season after all.
