New Chelsea signing compared to Manchester City star by former Blue

It’s the second week of February, and we’re about as far from a transfer window as it’s possible to be.

And yet, in classic Chelsea style, the club today announce a new signing in the form of Hakim Ziyech from Ajax.

It’s nicely timed to give us all something to talk about in this long winter break, and opinions have been sought from all quarters.

Goal.com have quotes from former Chelsea player Tony Cascarino, who has compared the Morocco international with another Premier League star from North Africa:

“Ziyech has got everything. He’s a bit like Riyad Mahrez – he can dribble and go past you, he’s quite direct, he’s a great set-piece taker, he has a fantastic assist record, he just sees passes,” Cas is quoted as saying.

“He’s a real talent who I think would be a fantastic addition to Chelsea,” he went on to say.

It’s easy to see the comparison with Algeria winger. Both have that unpredictable creative spark that can break teams apart, both are superb dribblers and crossers.

Mahrez has not been able to consistently produce his magic for Man City however since his big move two summers ago. Let’s hope Ziyech can go one better when he arrives at Stamford Bridge next season.
