Missed chances and another VAR farce – How Chelsea’s top four fight stuttered

Watching Chelsea play last night was another case of ‘been there, done that’ for Blues supporters who have seen it all before this season.

Chelsea bossed the game, played some very neat football at times, and looked like the only team with a scoring threat most of the game.

However, a lack of imagination in the final third as per usual, and Michy Batshuayi missing the few chances that they did create, coupled for another frustrating match that has shaped their whole season.

Chelsea now face a fight to make top four with Tottenham just one point behind them in 5th spot and The Blues playing them next.

But Frank Lampard and his players can also feel extremely hard done by, as VAR played a massive part in them losing the game last night.

Harry Maguire should have been sent off for one of the clearest red card offences you will see all season, but the incompetent officials said it wasn’t even a booking.

Then Kurt Zouma scored a perfectly fair goal, but once again the officials stepped in and ludicrously ruled it out due to a push from Cesar Azpiluctea on Brandon Williams. What they failed to see was Fred pushing Azpilicueta INTO Williams. If anything, it was a penalty to Chelsea!

Lampard and Chelsea will be very frustrated. But he also needs to question himself as to why he did not start Olivier Giroud over Batshuayi, who has been very poor recently.

And if not starting, why did he leave it so long to bring Giroud on? This could have changed the game.

On we go…
