The summer saw changes at Chelsea once again when the first team coaching setup was changed, seeing Maurizio Sarri leave the club, and be replaced by club legend Frank Lampard.
Sarri received good and bad reviews from Chelsea supporters, but he did leave his brief spell with a Europa League medal.
But there is no doubts that his methods and tactical systems were not for everyone, with some players coming out this season and describing the training as more enjoyable than last year.
The latest player to come out and say that is a player that Sarri actually bought on on loan during his time at the club, Mateo Kovacic.
The Croatian is now a permanent Chelsea player and has been an important element to Frank Lampard’s squad this season.
He has been playing with a lot more freedom and especially at the start of the season when he was starting most matches in place of the injured N’Golo Kante, he’s been one of Chelsea’s best players.
It looks like he is enjoying training a lot more as well, which could be the difference. As reported by AS, he describes Sarri’s training as ‘monotonous’, which means ‘dull’!
Kovacic said:
“I came to Chelsea under Sarri, but I must say that Lampard is an exceptional manager. He has kept the character he had as a player in his personality as a coach, which has inspired all of us.
“He commits himself with everything he’s got. Training is always challenging and different from last season.
“That’s probably the main difference between Lampard and Sarri, who made the concept of training quite monotonous. There were a lot of similar training sessions with a focus on tactical preparation.”
