Kurt Zouma reveals the harsh home truths he got from Jose Mourinho after Blues defeat

Jose Mourinho is one of the most decorated people in Sport. When he is around, there is never a dull moment. Love him or hate him, you cannot tell me that he isn’t pure gold entertainment!

The self-proclaimed special one is now the Tottenham manager, after his success with Chelsea, and not so much success with Manchester United. But he does love the drama.

You can debate what you think about the man all you like, but one thing he does have about him, and that’s the ability to say exactly what is on his mind, which is not always wise.

You can scroll the archives of hilarious interviews with Mourinho over time, and you will be entertained for hours.

But one man who was on the wrong end of Mourinho’s ‘home truths’ was Chelsea defender Kurt Zouma.

And he has revealed to RMC Sport (cited by Get Football News France) a time when Mourinho called him in to his office after a Chelsea defeat to basically tell him he was rubbish!

Classic Mourinho, and in this instance he got a good response from a young Zouma. So it worked, but not all would respond in that way, which proves again you wither love him or hate him!

Zouma said:

“He [Mourinho] is someone who loves victory. He uses all the tools possible to achieve it.

“I came here [Chelsea] at 19 and he played me. I was able to have my chances, I played my matches. I don’t know what other people think, we all have different opinions, but from my side, I don’t really agree (with the notion that Mourinho does not give young players a chance).

“I cannot remember which match we were playing, we were losing 3-1, away from home. The following day, he catches up with me, he takes me to his office, and he asks me if I am ok. I said yes, he asked me if I was sure. I said yes again, he replied: “Because you were rubbish this weekend.” Like that, direct.

“It shocked me, but it made me want to immediately respond (on the pitch). I remember that it hurt me, that it affected me. But I really wanted to show him that I could react.”
