Kepa first out for training as he looks to impress Lampard and earn place back

We fully back Frank Lampard’s decision to drop Kepa for Willy Caballero. The Spanish goalkeeper had been so bad, for so long, that something had to change.

How long he sticks with that decision, and how it ends up working for him, we will have to see.

But from Kepa’s perspective, it must have been a very tough few months. He’s gone from number one at a top club as a world record transfer, to warming the bench.

Back when the Champions League draw was made, he would have been excited to face Bayern Munich in the knockout round. Now, he’s likely going to be watching from the sideline.

He was the first player to emerge for the open training session today, leading plenty of people to speculate that he is trying his best to impress Frank Lampard.

Maybe it was just for the assembled cameras of the press, maybe it’s just a coincidence. Either way, it’s notable.
