Joe Cole: “Not recruiting has affected the performance and the team”

It was a very difficult watch for Chelsea fans last night as their side were easily swept away by a class Bayern Munich outfit.

The German side came to Stamford Bridge and completely outplayed Chelsea, it was a real case of men versus boys.

Chelsea now face the almost impossible task of going to Munich and even attempting to turn it around in the second leg, all but ending their Champions League progression hopes.

Frank Lampard fully knows that his side were not good enough last night, but he also knows that he needs/needed help in the shape of reinforcements, as he so often mentioned before and during the January transfer window.

But as we know, the board failed to back him and bring in any new players, especially a striker which is what Lampard really wanted.

Blues coach Joe Cole got it spot on on BT Sport last night after the game, as reported by The Daily Star, Cole said:

“Knowing this game was on the horizon Frank would’ve been desperate to get players in the door.

“He’s asked Giroud who done brilliant for him at the weekend, but who has not been fit and is a 32-year-old striker, to come and lead your line against one of the best teams in Europe at the moment.

“He just looked like he ran out of steam – not recruiting has affected the performance and the team.”
