Giroud “leapfrogged Batshuayi” in Man U cameo and should start on Saturday

Olivier Giroud has been out in the cold, but now he might just have the chance to return and make the difference for the team where he’s been an outcast.

The striker has barely been considered by Frank Lampard this season, but has now pushed his way to the front of the pecking order thanks to a solid sub performance against Manchester United.

That’s what Jack Rosser of the Evening Standard thinks.

He said that the “brief 22 minute cameo, the Frenchman leapfrogged Batshuayi in the pecking order.”

He reckons he’s in line to start against Spurs on Saturday, and we’re inclined to agree. While the goal he scored against United was offside, the whole ground saw his impressive finish regardless of the offside call, and most will be begging Lampard to give him a chance.

Batshuayi on the other hand continued to miss chances – surely his 9 lives are up now?
