Frank Lampard has cut a frustrated figure over the last few weeks, making it clear that he needed some short-term investments during the January transfer window in order to help him achieve the clubs goals this season.
However, the Board failed to give him any new signings in the winter transfer window, and have decided to prioritise their long-term targets in the summer, according to The Athletic.
Lampard has been visibly agitated by this, dismissing any talk of it after the Leicester City draw at the weekend saying “It’s gone. I am not interested in the window, I am not interested in talking about it. I am interested in the point we got and what we do going forward.”
But before this, he was adamant that the club needed to get him short-term reinforcements, as he admitted before the FA Cup match against Hull City a couple of weeks back, he said:
“But for this season, short-term [recruitment] needs to be done. For the bigger picture, of course there is a plan, but for now, when you look at it, we want to finish in the top four. At the minute, it is quite clear to me where we can improve so we have to look to that.”
This was a clear cry for players, and he needed them now, but failed to get them.
But as The Athletic report these quotes, they also state that Lampard IS invested in the clubs long term plans, but he is also concerned that he is being judged on results this season and the pressure is on for him to finish in the top four, a task that gets more difficult with every match.
