It showed the decision to keep the 3421 system in place had been a wise one by the Chelsea manager, Mason Mount looked influential once again in the channel as Alonso pulled defenders out wide.
Pedro wasn’t able to do much in the equivalent space on the other side, and getting him involved in the second half – or maybe replacing him with Willian – could be what this team needs to secure further goals and three points today.
This one still hangs on a knife edge, and the home side will get more chances to draw level, but as it stands Lampard’s call to hold his nerve with this setup is paying off.
